Principles and Applications

I. The Doomed Flock (Zechariah 11:1-6)

  • Principle: Faithless Leaders lead their People to Doom and Destruction.
  • Application: What is the motivation you have for service? Is it the love for the Lord and for people? Or are you motivated by personal gain?
  • Scripture Reference

Therefore, I exhort the elders among you, as your fellow elder and witness of the sufferings of Christ, and a partaker also of the glory that is to be revealed,
shepherd the flock of God among you, exercising oversight not under compulsion, but voluntarily, according to the will of God; and not for sordid gain, but with eagerness;
nor yet as lording it over those allotted to your charge, but proving to be examples to the flock.
I Peter 5:1-3 (NASB)

II. The Good Shepherd Dismissed (Zechariah 11:7-14)

  • Principle: Our Love of God shows Our View of God.
  • Application: What is your view of God? How much do you value what Jesus Christ has done for you?
  • Scripture Reference

But I have this against you, that you have left your first love.
Therefore remember from where you have fallen, and repent and do the deeds you did at first; or else I am coming to you and will remove your lampstand out of its place—unless you repent.
Revelation 2:4-5 (NASB)

III. The Foolish Shepherd Judged (Zechariah 11:14-17)

  • Principle: Only the Good Shepherd truly loves His Sheep.
  • Application: How are you caring for those that the Lord has entrusted to you?
  • Scripture Reference

“I am the good shepherd; the good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep.
John 10:11 (NASB)
