Outline and Lesson Goal

Principles and Applications

I. Refiner’s Fire: The Coming of Messiah (Malachi 2:17-3:5)

  • Principle: Only those whom God Purifies will be able to Stand with Him.
  • Application: Have you complained about God’s actions without considering your own sin? How prepared are you for the coming of the Day of the Lord?
  • Scripture Reference

11 For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men,
12 instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously and godly in the present age,
13 looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus,
14 who gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds.
Titus 2:11-14 (NASB)

II. Redeeming Grace: The Call to Return to God (Malachi 3:6-12)

  • Principle: God’s People Rejoice in Honoring Him with their Wealth.
  • Application: How does your attitude about giving to the Lord need to change? What does it reflect in terms of your relationship with Him?
  • Scripture Reference

Now this I say, he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.
Each one
 must do just as he has purposed in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that always having all sufficiency in everything, you may have an abundance for every good deed;
2 Corinthians 9:6-8 (NASB)
