Summary: Why do a study of the Minor Prophets? First of all, I love studying the Old Testament. I know that all Scripture is breathed by God and profitable for His people (2 Timothy 3:16).
When we as Christians neglect the reading and teaching of the O.T., I feel we are missing on something God wants us to know.
Furthermore, Jesus Himself said that all of the O.T. points to Him (Luke 24:44; John 5:39). I believe that as His people we could benefit and grow from an in-depth study of the Old Testament.
There are 12 books classified as the Minor Prophets. Not because they are lesser in importance, but because their length is shorter compared to the books of Isaiah, Jeremiah, Lamentations, Ezekiel and Daniel.
So, this is a new challenge for me but I am ready to go and I hope you are ready to join me in the journey!
The Message of the Minor Prophets
“The Minor Prophets dramatize the character of God as few other books in the Bible do. They particularly highlight three aspects of God’s character: His sovereignty, His holiness, and His love.”
The Minor Prophets Volume 1 (Hosea – Jonah)
An Expositional Commentary by James Montgomery Boice
“When you compare them with the books written by Isaiah, Jeremiah and Ezekiel, the Minor Prophets are “minor” only in size.
The messages that the Minor Prophets wrote are of major importance. In fact, their messages ought to fill us with wonder.
Too many sleepy saints have lost their sense of wonder. The Minor Prophets shout at us to awaken us and invite us to open our eyes and be amazed at what God is doing in this world.”
