Outline and Lesson Goal
Principles and Applications
I. Revival: The Coming of the Spirit (Joel 2:28-32)
- Principle: Spiritual Regeneration is the only Path to Salvation.
- Application: Has the Holy Spirit been poured out in you? What evidence does your life provide to show that you now belong to the Lord?
- Scripture Reference
5 Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
John 3:5-6 (NASB)
II. Retribution: The Day of the Lord (Joel 3:1-16)
- Principle: God’s Judgment of Sinners will be Swift and Terrible.
- Application: Who do you need to pray for so that they escape the coming judgment on the day of the Lord?
- Scripture Reference
6 For after all it is only just for God to repay with affliction those who afflict you,
7 and to give relief to you who are afflicted and to us as well when the Lord Jesus will be revealed from heaven with His mighty angels in flaming fire,
8 dealing out retribution to those who do not know God and to those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.
9 These will pay the penalty of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power,
10 when He comes to be glorified in His saints on that day, and to be marveled at among all who have believed—for our testimony to you was believed.
I Thessalonians 1:6-10 (NASB)
III. Renewal: The Future Glory of Judah (Joel 3:17-21)
- Principle: God will fulfill all of His Promises to Judah.
- Application: How do the promises of God to Judah encourage you today? How does it knowing He never abandons His people help you?
- Scripture Reference
9 And the Lord will be king over all the earth; in that day the Lord will be the only one, and His name the only one.
10 All the land will be changed into a plain from Geba to Rimmon south of Jerusalem; but Jerusalem will rise and remain on its site from Benjamin’s Gate as far as the place of the First Gate to the Corner Gate, and from the Tower of Hananel to the king’s wine presses.
11 People will live in it, and there will no longer be a curse, for Jerusalem will dwell in security.
Zechariah 14:9-11 (NASB)
