Focus Passage: Psalms 110
Outline and Lesson Goal
Principles and Applications
I. A Sovereign Reign (110:1-3)
- Principle: Our Sovereign Messiah’s Reign Will be Absolute and Everlasting.
- Application: How does it affect your life knowing that your Sovereign King has absolute control?
- Scripture Reference
6 For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us; And the government will rest on His shoulders;
And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.
7 There will be no end to the increase of His government or of peace,
On the throne of David and over his kingdom,
To establish it and to uphold it with justice and righteousness
From then on and forevermore.
The zeal of the Lord of hosts will accomplish this.
Isaiah 9:6-7 (NASB)
II. A Supremely Priestly Reign (110:4)
- Principle: Our Sovereign Messiah is also Our Perfect High Priest.
- Application: What comfort do you receive from knowing your Sovereign King is also your High Priest who saves and lives to make intercession for you?
- Scripture Reference
23 The former priests, on the one hand, existed in greater numbers because they were prevented by death from continuing,
24 but Jesus, on the other hand, because He continues forever, holds His priesthood permanently.
25 Therefore He is able also to save forever those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.
Hebrews 7:23-25 (NASB)
III. A Sin Crushing Reign (110:5-7)
- Principle: Our Sovereign Messiah Will One Day Judge the World.
- Application: How are you encouraged in your walk today knowing that the Sovereign King will crush all sin and iniquity forever?
- Scripture Reference
6 For after all it is only just for God to repay with affliction those who afflict you,
7 and to give relief to you who are afflicted and to us as well when the Lord Jesus will be revealed from heaven with His mighty angels in flaming fire,
8 dealing out retribution to those who do not know God and to those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.
9 These will pay the penalty of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power,
2 Thessalonians 1:6-9 (NASB)
